This week would have been the Hotchillee Alpine Challenge 2020 and, as we can’t make it to the mountains this year, we’ve decided to bring the mountains to us! We’ve set the challenge of accumulating the 10483m we should have been climbing in the French Alps to be in with a chance to win a Wahoo ELEMNT ROAM – click here for more info.
Even if you don’t fancy climbing the full 10,000m, we’d love you to join us for a virtual climb this week. The Virtual Queen Stage is open to anyone who fancies testing their legs in Groups 1 and 2 or riding the infamous Alpe du Zwift at a more sociable pace with Group 3.
We’ll be running three groups and riding the 45.9km / 1683m Quatch Quest route on Zwift that takes in both the Epic KOM and the Alpe du Zwift. The winners of the KOM / QOM in Group 1 on the day will each win a Specialized Angi. There will also be prizes for Groups 2 and 3 up for grabs.
We’ll be running Discord Channels for chat for all groups so you can chat with your fellow riders as we climb.
To take part you’ll need a Zwift account and to add VAlpine after your Zwift name. Then decide which Group you’d like to join and follow the ride leader on the Zwift Companion App. They will then invite you.
Date: Saturday 27 June 2020
Start time: 09:00 BST
Route: QUATCH QUEST, WATOPIA
Riding with the Beacon over the Epic KOM and to the foot of the Alpe aiming to ride at about 3 w/kg to the foot of the Alpe. Once on the Alpe, the gloves come off and the race for the KOM/QOM is on or just chill with the Beacon who’ll climb at 3 w/kg.
To qualify for the KOM/QOM, you must ride with Group 1 and be close to the Beacon at the start of the climb. The winners will be the fastest times on the Zwift Insider Verified Segment for that day, not the first across the line.
Follow: WAYDE FINCH | HOTCHILLEE RC on the Zwift Companion App for an invitation
Riding with the Beacon, who’ll be averaging 2-2.5 w/kg, for the entire ride including the Alpe.
Follow: DIMITRI NICOLAIDES | HOTCHILLEE RC on the Zwift Companion App for an invitation
Will be set as no-drop with the emphasis on banter, enjoying the virtual scenery and just logging those climbing meters.

Glen is usually behind the scenes making sure that the Hotchillee Ride Captains and event participants have fully functioning bicycles to ride but he occasionally makes an appearance in front of the camera to share his wisdom. If he’s not fixing or building bikes he’ll be out riding in #SweetSussex. If you want to know anything about Cyclocross, Glen is the man to ask.
