LONDON-PARIS

by Tour de France

20-24 JULY 2022

There’s now two ways to ride the Tour de France’s official LONDON-PARIS … on Road or Gravel.

Both options include world class event support, the kind of camaraderie you only find in Lycra, and an itinerary put together by the Hotchillee events team with over 17 years experience. The big decision for all you Tour de France junkies out there … which route do you take?

Live out your World Tour fantasies and ride fully supported on road, with all the bells and whistles of rolling road closures and motorbike outriders, or see yourself as a pioneer and explore the path less travelled on our new off-road adventure?

Both routes are open to varying abilities, take 3 days and merge 50km outside Paris for the ceremonial roll-in of 450 riders on closed roads the day before the Tour de France finish.

The choice is yours … but opting to upgrade to ride the Tour de France Femmes course through the centre of Paris the following day is a no brainer…

ITINERARY

Sign On takes place at Imber Court Sports Club, Ember Lane, Hampton Court, KT8 0BT.

14:00 – 17:00: Sign on

17:00 – 17:30: Rider briefing, Road

17:30 – 18:00: Rider briefing, Gravel

Prepare for a sunrise start as we depart Hampton Court for the coast.

Both road and gravel routes cross The Channel today so it’s full steam ahead as we roll through quintessential English countryside to the sea.

Wake up to a continental hotel breakfast before you hit the road (or gravel) for your first day riding in France.

With no ferries to catch there’s less pressure on the timings today, but with a days riding already in your legs it’s still a tough day in the saddle.

The morning may feel long, but as the excitement builds there’s no more iconic finish line than the Champs Élysées and you get to cross it with all your London-Paris comrades.

The routes merge at lunch just outside of Paris and arrive at the finish together, stay in the same 4* Parisian hotel and join forces for the Finishers Celebration.

Ride the start of the Tour de France Femmes course on closed roads through the centre of Paris.

This is an optional upgrade package exclusively for LONDON-PARIS by Tour de France riders.

Stay in the heart of the action at the pro teams hotel and absorb the atmosphere of men’s and new women’s race with access to track side seating.

gravel route

Esher > Newhaven

A fast and flat 122km/400m following the Downs Link to the coast. Hitting urban gravel almost from the off before punching south with the chalky and flinty trails whizzing beneath your tyres.

London-paris-gravel-stage-1-route

Dieppe > Vernon

The Queen Stage covering 140km/1350m of rolling French trails, dipping in and out of forests, through picture postcard villages and finishing along the banks of the Seine. It’s a long day, but with an early start and late cut off there’s time to look up and enjoy the views.

London-paris-gravel-stage-2-route

Vernon > Paris

A flat roll-out along the Seine to ease the legs off before a string of brutal climbs and adrenaline fuelled descents. After 57km/800m of the rough stuff, the route joins up with the road riders for a spine tingling final 50km processionary ride to the Eiffel Tower complete with traffic police escort, motorbike outriders and rolling closed roads.

Each group rides as a peloton with a lead car, motorbike outriders, mechanic’s van and rolling road closures with the Hotchillee ride captains in radio contact with the support vehicles to help ensure the safety of each group at all times.

The format consists of tempo group riding with timed race sections for Groups 1 and 2, where participants compete for Leader’s Jerseys. The other speed groups focus on completing the event in a fun and fully supported environment.

The Gravel event is a gravel adventure, not a race and participants are free to ride solo if they wish or in groups supported by the Hotchillee ride captains. The ride captains are there to support, encourage and help with any mechanicals. They will also be in contact with the event team and support vehicles.
