Join us for some brand new trails in Sussex, courtesy of THE AEIGHT BIKE CO, our official UK Service Centre for OPEN Bikes. For our Pioneer Event we’re going to ride local bridleways, trails and quiet roads that we know are less affected by bad weather, but do keep in mind that March can still be pretty muddy! Therefore we’ve also planned a route which we know you’ll love, rather than going for epic millage (which we can do later in the season)! The route has been designed for gravel bikes like the OPEN U.P. but you’re welcome to bring any suitable off-road bike based on a social/15kph pace. We’ll ride as one group, regularly regrouping.
Meet: The Dorset Arms, Withyham, TN7 4BD
Parking: Limited at the pub so PLEASE PARK IN THE OVERFLOW CARPARK, or better yet ride over to meet us. We can also recommend booking a table for lunch which starts at 12noon.
Time: Meet 8:45 for 09:00 Start
Route Details: 33km Hilly / Social Pace (15kph average)
From The Dorset Arms in Withyham we’ll ride along a disused railway line to Groombridge and then into the woods around Royal Tunbridge Wells, before heading up onto the ridge and along one of the floatiest, funnest bridleways we know of. We then head up to Bidborough Ridge, to take on the super fun descent and Tour of Flanders style concrete track over to Penshurst (you’ll feel like a pro)! If we’re on our target pace we’ll call in for a quick Cortado at Kingdom, before heading over a great triple section of bridleways back to the Dorset for a debrief.
