Registrations open at 10:00 BST today for the 2019 edition of the Rainmaker RollerCoaster, the world’s first 7-day gravel adventure race.
The inaugural event, which took place from Swellendam to Plettenberg Bay last week, was won by former MTB World Champion Christoph Sauser and Craig Boyes, riding for team Songo.info.
Christoph Sauser:“It was an amazing gravel ride, and an excellent new event for the calendar. Exploring beautiful new landscapes with my bicycle, together with great company made me very happy.”
Bruce Reyneke, winner of the Grand Master Jersey Competition:“In 2004 I did the first Cape Epic. People said we were crazy. In 2018 I did the inaugural Rainmaker Rollercoaster. It was basically the first few Epics in reverse on gravel bikes. It was a great challenge and a great experience. People say we crazy. I don’t think so.”
The 2019 edition will include a new route, but continue with the same event format of participants being able to race in teams of two, or ride in one of the “ride” groups supported by the HotChillee Ride Captains.
Next year’s event: 5 – 11 October 2019
