Since the first lockdown the Hotchillee Gain Train has been a staple of our virtual calendar. What started as a small group of Hotchillee Premium Members has evolved into an official Zwift Event which is now open to everyone. All you need to do is decide which carriage to board – First Class, Second Class or the Buffet Carriage!
THIS IS NOT A RACE
Paced by your Engine and working with fellow passengers in your class the aim is to hold your advertised pace as smoothly and efficiently as possible.
Date: Thursday evenings
Distance: 40 km (approx)
Buffet Car (D): < 2 w/kg (setting off at 18:30 GMT)
Second Class (C): 2.5 – 3 w/kg (setting off at 18:35 GMT)
First Class (B): 3.5 – 4 w/kg (setting off at 18:40 GMT)
When the faster classes catch, if you’re feeling strong, jump onboard for an upgrade and see how long you can stay in for knowing that your original class and Engine will be waiting with open arms behind.
Expect things to pick-up towards the end and there might even be a mini “race” in the final few kilometres – just wait for your Engine’s instructions.
If you have a turbo trainer and a Zwift account then give it a go – all you need to do is decide which class to ride! To join us find the next event on the Rides and Activities calendar.

Nik is the author of all of the Hotchillee Training Plans, Zwift workout files and regularly posts tips and advice on the Hotchillee app. He’s also the evil genius behind the now infamous Hotchillee Gain Train.
Glen is usually behind the scenes making sure that the Hotchillee Ride Captains and event participants have fully functioning bicycles to ride but he occasionally makes an appearance in front of the camera to share his wisdom. If he’s not fixing or building bikes he’ll be out riding in #SweetSussex. If you want to know anything about Cyclocross, Glen is the man to ask.
