Cycling in Morocco - Marrakech to Oukaimeden bike ride | HotChillee

The Marrakech atlas etape

The Marrakech Atlas Etape is an annual sportive starting from Marrakech to Oukaimeden, a ski-resort in the Atlas Mountains at over 2,500m.

Entry to the Etape is included as part of the HotChillee Atlas Mountains 2019 and forms the start of day 1. Rather than return to Marrakech with other Etape riders, we will descend from Oukaimeden to the mountain village of Ouirgane where we will be based for our gravel adventures. There will be a turn off at the 52km water stop for riders wanting to less climbing on day 1.

“It might not be the first place you’d expect to find a sportive, but take your bike to Marrakech and you’ll discover that the city plays host to one of the finest.” James Spender, Cyclist

“With climbs rougher and tougher than Alpe d’Huez, the Marrakech Atlas
Etape lies at the more challenging end of the sportive spectrum.” Stuart Clapp, Cycling Weekly

“You’d expect nothing but searing sunshine and boiling heat riding in a Moroccan sportive. But as our intrepid cycling explorer discovers, expectations don’t always turn into reality…” John Whitney, Cycling Plus
