London
great gravel escape

2022 DATE COMING SOON

Take the packing out of bike-packing with this two day gravel adventure.

Cruise from the iconic Thames and escape the urban jungle through a historic, tranquil canal network, once the beating heart of the Capital. As the London skyline becomes a spec in the distance industrial architecture and urban graffiti are replaced by woodland paths, quiet country lanes, open fields and bridal paths.

We’ve joined forces with our friends at Wild Cycles to take packing out of bike packing, so arrive to find your pre-pitched tent and enjoy a well deserved beer before a delicious, locally sourced 3 course meal around the camp fire.

After sleeping in the shadow of the Ridgeway you’ve got a more technical day’s riding exploring the hidden off-road gems along the paths, trails and single track of the Chilterns.

Hotchillee App

Feel the Hotchillee love 365 days a year and join us on the companion app. Here you’ll find the Ride Captains, our team, your fellow riders and everything you’ll need in preparation for your grand depart. Ask us anything, we’re here to help.

FAQs

No, you will need to upload the route to your navigation device before the event.

Yes! If you do not have a device you can hire a Wahoo Elemnt Roam on registration (available on a first come first served basis).

Riders with GPS navigation units will be able to download the route ahead of time. There will be Hotchillee Ride Captains on the course available to offer a helping hand, or contact the event organisers if there are any issues.

You will need to be self-sufficient for large sections of the ride and each rider will need to carry spares and tools necessary to deal with punctures and mechanicals.

We will have a support vehicle on hand for riders who need to be collected, however there is no dedicated broom wagon as much of the route is not drivable by vehicle.

Day 1 is largely on canal paths. These are used by walkers and there maybe areas where it is busy. It is essential that you ride at a sensible speed as to not endanger yourself of others using the canal path. There’s no official speed limit, but you shouldn’t expect to do more than 12mph (19kph) and in urban or other busy areas it might be much less. Be patient and don’t expect people to step aside for you. We strongly recommend you fit a bell to your bicycle. A big smile and a thank you to your fellow canal path users is always a winner!

You must be 18 years or older on 30 July 2021 to enter.

The event is not technical. A good level of fitness is recommended. If you are in doubt as to your fitness then we recommend you have a medical check-up before registering.

We will meet in Rohampton Gate car park in Richmond Park. You can be dropped at the park by a vehicle or ride to the start with you luggage on your back. You can not park for the duration of the event in Richmond Park.

We’d recommend a gravel/ adventure bike. Hotchillee Ride Captains will be riding the Specialized Diverge.

You can also join us on a Mountain Bike if you would prefer.

Yes! We recommend that all riders have public liability insurance ie British Cycling membership.

No, this is all about the escape.

Hotchillee Ride Captains will be on the route to help with light mechanicals, but much of it is not accessible by vehicle. There will be light mechanical support at the end of each day.

Each rider can bring one back pack. All bedding and clothing must be inside the bag. If you are bringing a sleeping bag it must be securely attached to your backpack.

No, the days are not particularly long. We will be suggesting places where you can stop for water.

There will be a van that is on hand to collect any riders with mechanical issues that can not be fixed on the road. Or need collecting for any other reasons.

If Hotchillee cancels the event for any reason not listed in the conditions of sale, your entry fee is fully refundable.
If the event is postponed due to COVID-19, your entry will automatically be transferred to the new date. If you can’t make the new dates, you’ll receive a credit to use against any other Hotchillee multi-day or single day event. The credit expires on 1 July 2022. If you have not used the credit by the expiry date, you’ll receive a refund equal to the original booking amount.

If for any reason you need to cancel your entry there are several options available:

  1. You are able to nominate a substitute rider for your entry (up to 30 days before the event start date).
  2. You may defer your entry as a credit towards another HotChillee event in the same or following calendar year (up to 12 weeks before the event start date).
