Put the date in your diary, make sure your pain cave is set-up and ready and sign-up for the inaugural Hotchillee e-Racing Club Championships.
Our friends at Southborough and District Wheelers led by Simon Miller have secured a private event on Zwift with the help of James Bailey from HERD and have kindly invited us to piggy back it. If you do decide to race, please think about making a donation to the GoFundMe page.
The course is two laps of the Richmond UCI World’s route (33km / 318m) which opens it up to climbers, sprinters and rouleurs.
Watch this YouTube video from Southborough and District Wheelers announcing the event and of course the sign-up link.
Rules and regulations. Although there will be some small prizes on offer to Cat winners and the obvious massive kudos, it’s really just a bit of fun but there will be some rules to ensure fair racing.
There are five race categories, please enter the right one and don’t be tempted to sandbag in a lower one. Categories are determined by your w/kg at FTP (simply divide your FTP by your weight). If you’re a regular Gain Trainer, First Class riders should enter A or B, Second Class C and Buffet D. All female riders should enter E.
A : 4-5 w/kg
B : 3.2-4 w/kg
C : 2.5-3.2 w/kg
D : 1-2.5 w/kg
E : 1-5 w/kg
You will need to sign-up for ZwiftPower (where results will be published and filtered) and join the Hotchillee race team on that platform. This enables us to check who placed where and, if necessary, filter out any obvious sandbaggers who have exceeded their Cat’s w/kg range. It’s a mass start race with all Cats setting off together so, if you go with a bunch of higher Cats, you will need to be aware of over-shooting your range – there will be 0.2 w/kg grace. Here is a link describing how to join ZwiftPower.
You will need to be riding a smart trainer or a dumb trainer with a power meter, zpower riders (using estimated power from speed/cadence sensor) will not be allowed.
You also need to wear a heart rate monitor.
You will need to be racing in Hotchillee kit (so other Chillees can see you).. this means competing a Gain Train before the 6th November to unlock … Grain Train takes place every Thursday evening at 18:30 GMT.
If you have any questions or want more information please message hotchillee_nik on the Hotchillee companion app.
