At the London Bike Show this year we ran a competition with Cycling Plus magazine to win a place on the HotChillee LONDON-PARIS 2018, a Specialized Tarmac and a Rawvelo nutrition pack. Thank you to all who entered! The winner was chosen at random last week and we’re looking forward to welcoming Damian Lai from Gloucestershire on his first ever multi-day cycling event!
Damian is married with two young boys aged 8 & 5 and lives in Dursley, Gloucestershire in the Cotswolds. He is a member of Dursley Running Club and the newly founded Dursley Triathlon Club. Here’s his story:
“At the end of 2013 I ended up in hospital for 3 weeks with pneumococcal pneumonia and then in 2014 had a health check. The results were not good; they confirmed that I was overweight, had high blood pressure, high heart rate and high cholesterol. Since early 2015 I have been on a life changing journey, taking up running and now also regularly swimming and cycling. I have lost nearly 6 stone!
I am so excited about the London to Paris bike ride, this will be a completely new challenge to me, cycling 100 miles each day for 3 days will be tough, but I’m committed to doing the training to ensure I complete the challenge to the best of my ability. My longest ever bike ride to date has been 56 miles, but I am planning to do a 100 mile sportive in June and compete in Ironman Bolton which will be a 112 mile bike ride in July. So I should be more than ready for the challenge!! I would like to raise money for charity and ride the London-Paris bike ride for the British Lung Foundation – Team Breathe!”
For his 40th birthday last year he wanted to do something special so decided to run the London Marathon for charity and also compete in 2 Ironman 70.3 events (Staffordshire & Weymouth). Damian has completed 18 marathons, London this year will be his 19th, raising money for the British Lung Foundation. He has raised over £5000 so far…
Congratulations Damian, see you in July! There are limited places on the HotChillee LONDON-PARIS 2018, click here for more information and how to enter.
